2005 Restoration Project . . .

In February 2005, Karl & Joanne started the restoration of the front parlor.  Since it was the room in the best unrestored condition, they lived with old painted over wallpapered walls and a lowered ceiling for 17 years.  There were other rooms that needed more immediate attention.  The original plan, after repairing the plastered walls and ceiling, was to wallpaper the room in a "documented"  Gothic wallpaper design.  After an extensive search for reproduction wallpaper, they were not satisfied with the choices.  Either the pattern was not right or priced way beyond their budget.  During the search for period appropriate wallpaper, they happened upon a site in the UK that sold period Gothic pattern stencils.  They realized that stenciling the entire room would be a tremendous amount of work . . . but the results would be worth the effort.  Here are a few images of three months of non-stop work.
