Restoration Project . . .
In February 2005, Karl & Joanne started
the restoration of the front parlor. Since it was the room in
the best unrestored condition, they lived with old painted over
wallpapered walls and a lowered ceiling for 17 years. There
were other rooms that needed more immediate attention. The
original plan, after repairing the plastered walls and ceiling, was
to wallpaper the room in a "documented" Gothic wallpaper
design. After an extensive search for reproduction wallpaper,
they were not satisfied with the choices. Either the pattern
was not right or priced way beyond their budget. During the
search for period appropriate wallpaper, they happened upon a site
in the UK that sold period Gothic pattern stencils. They
realized that stenciling the entire room would be a tremendous
amount of work . . . but the results would be worth the effort.

Removing layers of painted wallpaper. Fireplace mantle makes a great tool box. Removing the old drywall that held the orignal plaster ceiling in place. Starting extensive stencil design. Working on ceiling design & making progress on the walls. Months of hand painiing and ALL of the walls and a ceiling design are complete. Cleaning the place up. Guests are due soon!
